Cowes - Poole

  • Cowes, England United Kingdom (map)

The Cowes to Poole Race is a popular offshore sailing event in the UK, typically taking place in early summer. The race starts from Cowes, on the Isle of Wight, and finishes in Poole Harbour on the south coast of England. Covering a distance of around 60 nautical miles, the course takes sailors through the busy waters of the Solent before heading into the open sea, with a final approach into Poole Harbour, known for its sheltered waters.

The race attracts a variety of yachts, from smaller cruisers to larger racing boats, and offers both a challenge and an opportunity for sailors to test their skills in offshore conditions. The event often features a mix of wind conditions, with the Solent presenting challenging tidal currents, while the open sea leg tests the sailors' ability to manage longer stretches of racing.

The race is known for its competitive atmosphere, but it also serves as a fun and engaging event for participants, offering great views and a chance to enjoy the natural beauty of the English coast. It's a fantastic warm-up for sailors preparing for other major events like the Fastnet Race.
